Want to keep your kids reading over the summer? How about joining a free summer reading program? My daughter loved the freebies so we often participated in several of the reading programs which helped prevent summer slide. Here are all your summer reading program options:
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
This reading program encourages all Henry County residents to read 1,000 books with their young children before they begin kindergarten. If your reader is about to begin kindergarten, this may not be the program for you.
Drip Thru Coffee Summer Reading Program
Who: Students in grades K-8
What: Students that read at least 10 books between 6/1-8/31/2023 & have a parent/guardian email their reading journal to [email protected] will receive a FREE 12oz. smoothie
(once the log has been reviewed by our staff).
When: June 1 – August 31, 2023
Check it Out Reading Challenge
Who: Students in grades K-12
What: Read at least five books and fill out this form. A free youth ticket with the purchase of at least 1 adult ticket to a 2023-24 Atlanta Hawks regular season game. (Information on how to redeem tickets will be sent out via email before the start of the 2023-24 season.)
When: Friday, May 26 through Friday, September 1.
Scholastic Summer Reading Program
Who: Students in grades K-12
What: Kids can visit the summer zone in Scholastic Home Base, a completely free digital destination that offers stories, characters, games, and a community of readers. Home Base is moderated for safety 24/7.
When: May 4 – September 7, 2023
Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Challenge
Who: Students in grades 1-6.
What: Read any eight books this summer and record them in this Summer Reading Journal.
When: Now-August 31, 2023
The Amazon Summer Reading Challenge
Who: Students in grades 1-6.
What: Read at least eight books over the summer. Children can earn a free book by reading the books.
When: July 8 to September 9, 2023.
Summer Reading Camp
Who: Readers ages 18 and under.
What: Starting June 1, registered participants have access to printable camp components all summer, including reading lists, activity ideas, and coloring sheets. You can also visit your local HPB to receive a copy of your camper’s Summer Reading Log, cool camp stickers, and information on how to earn $5 Bookworm Bucks in June and July!
