Here at South Atlanta Moms, we are on a mission to find and highlight the amazing moms who are making a difference in their communities. Allow us to introduce you to this week’s Meet A Mom, Ariel Shaw. Ariel’s passion for assisting women in business and the youth is commendable. Ariel truly believes in teaching and empowering women because she understands that once a woman is empowered, she can empower both her family and her community.
Hi Ariel. Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. Let’s begin by taking a moment to introduce yourself.
I am Ariel Shaw, a businesswoman originally from Charleston, SC. I have lived in South Atlanta, or as I like to refer to it, the Southern Crescent, for over 10 years. I have one amazing daughter, Sèlah, who just entered her teenage years this month. Happy Birthday again, Sèlah.
When did you move to South Atlanta and what are your favorite family activities in South Atlanta?
We have been here for over 10 years and we like to travel a lot and explore new places to dine. Because our week is normally so busy, we use the weekend to slow down, and that can include going to museums, finding new restaurants, going to see a new movie in theaters, or taking a drive to the beach.
Are you involved in a business venture and/or a local organization?
I am the Founder and President of Southern Crescent Women In Business, which is similar to a Women’s Chamber. I am also the founder of AS Consulting LLC where we do business and political consulting.
What is your favorite part about what it is that you do?
My favorite part of what I do is seeing something in its infancy stage to a fully developed plan or business. That growth process is exciting for me to watch.
What advice do you have for other women?
The advice that I would give other women is to give yourself grace. As long as you are doing your best, it’s ok if you do not want to make it to everything or give your child everything that he or she is requesting. If you are doing your best ladies, give yourself some much-needed grace.
Best advice you’ve received from another mom?
The best advice that I received from another mom may be when I first had my daughter and I was told to rest when she rests.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I take frequent breaks to rest and reset. People tend to think that all I do is work because that is what I primarily show on social media. But often I take mini vacays every few weeks to officially reset.
What else do you do to take care of yourself?
If I can get away for a weekend, that truly helps me reset. However, I also get massages, I go regularly to the nail salon and sometimes just relaxing at home with some much-needed quiet time is also a plus.
We love to support South Atlanta businesses. What are some of your favorites?
