Commissioner Franklin Requests Funding for Pedestrian & Motorist Safety in Clayton County | South Atlanta Moms

Commissioner Felicia Franklin of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners has sent a formal request to the Clayton County Federal & State Delegation to fund pedestrian and motorist safety improvements. Copies of the letters are attached for review.

“Not only am I going to continue to work for federal and state funding for cameras, crosswalks, and sidewalks, I will continue to work for federal and state funding for our Police Department and State Patrol to do more traffic enforcement to prevent these accidents,” stated Commissioner Franklin.

As of Sunday, July 25, 2021, five additional lives have been lost on Clayton County roads bringing the total count to 31 fatalities on Clayton County roadways in 2021.

Total Clayton County Pedestrian Fatalities

  • 2017 there were 13 fatalities
  • 2018 there were 15 fatalities
  • 2019 there were 13 fatalities
  • 2020 there were 14 fatalities
  • 2021 there have been 31 fatalities as of July 25, 2021

Commissioner Franklin continues her commitment to safer roads for motorists and pedestrians as she holds a community Town Hall meeting on August 5, 2021, at 6:00 PM at the South Clayton Recreation Center located at 1837 McDonough Road in Hampton, GA.

Representatives from the Atlanta Regional Commissioner, Georgia Tech, Pedestrian Safety Project, and Clayton County Transportation & Development will be present.
